Hello Churchville Families!

My name is Emily Otero and I am so excited and honored to be your principal! I have been an educator for over twenty years and I have loved every minute of it. I have 2 children of my own in high school; my son Lucas is a junior and my daughter Sonja is a college freshman in Manhattan. I have 2 step-sons, Nick who is at UNC-Wilmington and Mike who works for Jefferson-Health. They are active members of their schools and our community, so I understand “all the feels” you are feeling as your children go through Churchville and Council Rock. 

As a parent it is important to me to partner with the school to make sure my children feel supported all day. It is my job as Churchville Principal to partner with you and facilitate the team approach to your child’s education. These first years of school are critical for growth and confidence, to become the lifelong learners we know they can be. Churchville staff are ready to partner with you and set our students up for success to be lifelong learners. 

As an educator I have a firm belief that students can achieve what they set their minds to. The “Power of Yet” is the growth mindset that we use to explain this to children of all ages. Adding the word “yet” to a negative statement, can change it into a goal statement.  All students can help each other to reach their goals. We are all “in this together” to push each other to be the best version of ourselves.
